Be Not Afraid
As the final animation of my degree program, this was quite the undertaking. Over the course of a semester, I took the concept of an inept guardian angel office worker and turned it into a 4-minute animation that I am still proud of today.

NOT YET RENDERED
Process
This animation was… a lot. Two rigged humanoid models, Three scenes, dozens of assorted props, and a lot of late nights. The initial idea for the project came to life as I was in a ‘Kill Six Billion Demons’ kick. My mind on less traditional depictions of angels, I wanted to make something angelic but not too serious. In the interest of not over-explaining the joke (which always makes it much better), I found the idea of a horrendously incompetent guardian angel in an office setting to be funny, I still do.
From this point, my main struggle throughout the entire process was racing against the clock. I spent the majority of the semester just modeling, the main character and the rooms taking the longest out of everything.
I actually think that there is only one object in the entire animation that I did not hand model and that is the famous ‘Utah Teapot’ seen above. I ended up doing everything very “modularly”, making a bunch of small pieces that would eventually fit together as a way to bypass the fact that I lived a two hour drive away from campus and the only other computer at my disposal was a five year old gaming laptop that crashed more times than I can count (it is still somehow with us).
At some point, I would love to go back through and “remaster” the entire animation. Remake the character models, tidy up the materials and environments, take the knowledge that I’ve built up after almost a year of 3D work since starting ‘Be Not Afraid’. All that being said, for what it is, I am very proud of it.
